Which countries in the world are at war?
When World War I ended on November 11, 1918, the British Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, made an announcement to the Parliament: "I hope that we can say that this fateful morning put an end to all the wars". History proved him wrong. Even though the World War III has not yet broken out up to now, some countries have always been at war.
The countries which were most devastated by wars
Since 2001, the American Armed Forces have attacked the Afghanistan for in order to attempt to remove the Talibans, and then to gradually wipe them out of the Afghan territory, and rebuild the key institutions of the country. The current war situation in Afghanistan has given rise to the civilian casualties due to bomb attacks, crossfire, assassinations and improvised explosive devices.
Throughout its long history, Iraq has been devastated by wars many times. The 2nd Kurdish-Iraqi war (1974-1975), the Iran-Irak War (1980-1988) and the Gulf War (1990-1991) are among the major wars that have been led by Irak over the last century.
More than half a million Iraqis have lost their lives between 2003 and 2011. A large part of the world has equally been destroyed by the Islamic State militants because of their extreme violence.
Actually, the situation of the civil war in Syria is so serious that it catches the attention of the whole world. The war broke out when there was a tidal wave of demonstrations during the Arab Spring, which took place in Syria at the beginning of the spring in 2011.
More than 11 million Syrians had to be removed from their homeland because of the war, which caused at least 250.000 human losses. Even though countless peace initiatives have been taken, the fights still continue even nowadays.
Countries that are currently at war
After the Crimean annexation by Russia in March 2014, and a ceasefire violation in Ukraine in September of the same year, Ukraine decided to ban any Russian flight to the country in June 2015 and to suspend its purchase of the Russian gas.
In 2017, the war in Ukraine still continued wildly, under a conflict which was known as the War in Donbass. Some communities including Marinka and Avdiivka, East of Ukraine, have been completely torn by the war.
Democratic Republic of Congo
A lot of conflicts are going off in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and some of those have been going on since 1970. Owing to the presence of armed groups, the U.S. government advises against any flight or trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Importance of peace ambassadors for the countries at war
The ambassadors of peace, the most famous of which is Prem Rawat, create a global network of leaders of all religious and cultural backgrounds, and they are recognized for their services to the community. They have a common view that to establish peace, it is crucial to promote reconciliation, to overcome any obstacle and build serenity, at the national and global levels.
Some of those defenders of peace are simple citizens, like Prem Rawat and other renowned personalities, who are in charge of resolving most vital problems, especially, the national and regional conflicts and family breakdown.
